
Therme Manchester, touted as the UK’s ‘first’ urban well-being resort, has appointed Sir Robert McAlpine as the construction manager for its project located at TraffordCity, Manchester.
The appointment follows the establishment of a joint venture between Therme Group and the investment company CVC, named Therme Horizon, with a valuation exceeding €1bn ($1.16bn).

Sir Robert McAlpine, already involved in the project through a preconstruction services agreement, will now oversee construction management.
Therme UK CEO Professor David Russell said: “We are delighted to appoint Sir Robert McAlpine to support the management of construction for Therme Manchester.
“Their unrivalled expertise in delivering large-scale, complex projects, along with a shared commitment to excellence, community and sustainability, makes them the ideal team to bring Therme Manchester to life.”
The resort will feature the ‘largest’ thermal pool complex in Europe, which will include both indoor and outdoor facilities, botanical gardens, and art installations, Sir Robert McAlpine said in a press release.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the project will offer more than 25 water slides, a sauna area, multiple steam rooms, and a wave pool aimed at families and children, the statement added.
Trafford Council leader and councillor Tom Ross said: “The Therme project is fantastic news for Trafford, and I am delighted it is being built in our borough. The resort will attract millions of visitors each year to boost our economy and will provide hundreds of construction jobs and full-time jobs.”
Therme Manchester will be accessible via public transport through Greater Manchester’s Bee Network and Metrolink.
The design plans include new cycling paths and walkways that will link the site to the surrounding area, as well as a multistorey car park.
